Good governance should accelerate sound decisions, define accountability, and keep control proportional to the organization’s scale and risk.
Start with decisions, not documents
Policies and committees add value only when they make decisions clearer and more consistent. Begin by mapping the decisions that matter, who recommends them, who approves them, and what evidence is required.
Connect structure and accountability
Organization charts alone do not resolve overlap. Role charters, delegated authorities, process ownership, and performance measures must reinforce the same operating logic.

- Make process ownership visible across departments
- Use escalation routes for exceptions rather than routine work
Review governance as the institution changes
Governance is not a one-time design exercise. New services, markets, regulations, and technologies change the risk profile, so boards and executives need a regular cycle for reviewing whether the model still fits.
